Ons derde project ging van start in de tweede helft van 2022 en is nog steeds ongoing.

 

Het betreft een kwalitatieve update van een aantal scholen in Mannar in het Noorden van Sri Lanka. Kinderen worden omgevings- bewust gemaakt en het niveau van Engels onderwijs gaat omhoog. Daarnaast gaat het om een digitale update zodanig dat de kinderen instaat gesteld worden om op een interactieve manier (zelfstandig) leren.

 

De rol van MM- Foundation was met name een ondersteunende; we zorgen ervoor dat coördinatie tussen de scholen plaatsvindt om zo een constante en eenduidige kwaliteit te waarborgen. Hiervoor werken we samen met een daartoe aangestelde coördinator die door MM Foundation financieel wordt ondersteund.

 

Het project loopt door in 2023 en naar verwachting ook daarna. MM Foundation bekijkt per jaar waar zij haar waarde kan toevoegen.

Dear Heidi and other members of MM Foundation,

 

We are happy to share with you an update on OPEnE’s education project for 2022 and the plans for the continuation of work in 2023.

We have made progress in spite of the many challenges caused by the economic and political crisis in Sri Lanka. We are happy to report that the Madhu education zone where OPEnE works with remote schools has achieved 43 % pass rates in English and children now have access to digital interactive learning and self-learning opportunities. Parents are more involved in the schools' development and students have sensitized to care for the environment.  An IT teacher ( not an English teacher)   in a remote village school achieved a 92 % pass rate in GCE OL English pushing from  20 %  in the previous year in a class of  12 students. The E booster course really works if taught consistently. 

While we are happy with this achievement, we have a long way to go to prepare the children to face the future with its emerging opportunities and challenges. Spoken English, life skills, and care for communities and the environment will be our focus next year while ensuring optimal use of smart boards already provided.
